About Us

History

The Buttonwood Society was founded by Romeo Buet in the Fall of 2020, originally planned to be available for students of his institution, he chose to give the organization a broader reach in the hope to have a larger impact on teenagers from around the world. He always had an interest in the field of finance, however, he found the resources needed to begin investing and improve financial literacy to be over complexified and demotivating for young people trying to start out.

Romeo set out on his own to create a platform with a clear target delivering simplified and foundational financial content in an online format to teenagers from all backgrounds and cultures. The main focus of his enterprise is to adapt current financial resources to make them more accessible and understandable to young people that have been trying to get into finance, aspire to work in a business-related field, or simply wish to be more financially aware.

He formulated Buttonwood Society's mantra as "Financial education for the youth from the youth", highlighting its core principle of an educational platform without barriers to entry, the major difference in comparison to traditional finance and investing news platforms.

Present Day

Early on, Romeo took the services of Arno Heens to boost the production primary content and advise on platform development. He went on to become the first partner of the venture in January, after his constant dedication and positive contribution. Now, Buttonwood Society's team is made up of over 10 freelancers, all currently enrolled in higher education, working in different branches of the organization to provide content, assist in discussions, and manage site tech support.

The newest upgrade has been the introduction of forums, with the intention of allowing quicker communication, leaving no questions unanswered. In addition, to a new format of content: Podcast, to give the possibility of bringing in experts of the field and offer a more on the go approach to learning for all the commuters.

In the future, we look to expand our reach further by providing services in multiple languages as well as provide an in-person program in the form of a seminar to give the opportunity to have a live event, in which guest lecturers and breakout discussions would be entertained.

The origin of the name stems from the Buttonwood agreement the first creation of a stock market, as many people savvy of financial history may know. More on the name and event in here.
